Our non-contact boxing program directly addresses symptoms of Parkinson's such as balance, instability, rigidity, tremors, "shuffling" and even depression. Our skilled trainers continuously change the routine, which activates mental focus and pushes the participant past limited motion to re-establish connections in the brain which lead to smoother and more fluid movement. Here at Paragon Jiu-Jitsu we beleive that together we can change lives!
The orientation class is an overview of the fundamentals. We like to give our students the big picture in this short class and get them comfortable with all the basic body movements required for the sport. Expect to be introduced to some of the basic concepts and rules of the sport.
Our Paragon Rock Steady Boxing Program enables people with Parkinson's disease to improve their quality-of-life and sense of efficacy and self-worth. Recent studies suggest that intense exercise programs may be "neuro-protective," actually working to delay the progression of symptoms.
Our experienced trainers will train you like a boxer to fight your toughest opponent: Parkinson's disease (PD). Our 1 hour classes incorporate boxing techniques that attack PD at its most vulnerable neurological points. We utilize heavy bags, focus mitts, speed bags, medicine balls and calisthenics to improve balance, strength, reaction time and overall cardio fitness.
While participants train at their own fitness level, you should be ready to fight hard, challenge your body and mind and have fun too! No previous boxing experience is necessary, all ages and stages of PD are invited to participate. Care partners are also welcome to join the fitness and the fun!
